Licence Controller Qualification

Courses operate throughout the year and are completed by attending two seminar sessions one week apart (each seminar session is 5 hours) with directed study between the two sessions

Seminars are held on Monday afternoons, Tuesday evenings, Wednesday mornings and Saturday mornings. View Timetable

Students are provided with an up-to-date, comprehensive workbook and a copy of the Sale of Liquor Act that are included in the course fee ($245.) The Licence Controller Qualification application fee is included also.

Seminars are conducted in our training establishment in central Auckland. Seminars are also held in Manukau for South Auckland students. We also provide in-house training upon request for numbers in excess of 8 students, on dates and times that suit the client

WHO SHOULD ATTEND?

This course is a requirement for liquor licence applicants and applicants for Manager's Certificate and is suitable for persons being appointed to a liquor retail or bar management position and persons aged 18 years plus with experience working on licensed premises who wish to progress to a manager position

ENGLISH LANGUAGE

This training is a level 4 course of study that investigates the interpretation of legislation.  Candidates are required to have a good knowledge of the English language, both spoken and written.  If you have concerns related to this requirement please talk to our tutorial staff before enrolling.

AIMS AND OUTCOMES

The aim of this course is to equip persons who are working, or intend to work, in a liquor retail or bar management or supervisory position with the skills and knowledge required to meet the responsibilities and obligations of the position as determined by the Sale of Liquor Act 1989.  Upon successful completion students are able to claim NZQA unit standards 4646 and 16705, the 2 units that make up the Licence Controller Qualification.

CONTENT

The seminar concentrates on interpretation and understanding of liquor law, the four kinds of licences, the legal and moral obligations of managers related to the responsible sale and supply of liquor.

Host Responsibility and server intervention is an essential component that is investigated during the second session that also addresses the problems posed by minors and intoxicated persons. Students are assessed by satisfactory completion of the directed home study package and a 'closed book' end test

Providing students meet the assessment criteria they are awarded with a Certificate of Training which is one of the documents required to lodge an application for a Manager's Certificate

All students - $245.00

Course cost includes GST, study materials and assessment and the LCQ


RE-SITS

A re-sit fee of $65 applies for students that do not complete the assessments successfully the first time.  This fee allows the student to attend the course again, attend just the second session and/or resit the assessments.
